The ministry is currently providing assistance to the homeless in downtown Tampa on weekends, at the junction of Cass and Jefferson Streets. Our clients are primarily men, but women constitute an important part of the ministry's outreach. Our goal for the year 2007 is to establish a transitional housing program for men called Victory Center. For further information on this effort, and what it involves, click on Victory Center. Our goal is to serve the "whole person." This means that in addition to food, clothing, and basic necessities (shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, razors, deodorant, etc.), we strive to share spiritual guidance and hope as God leads. We also attempt - weather permitting - to offer haircuts, beard trimming, and other services to those less fortunate. An emphasis upon employment as the best alternative to life on the streets is encouraged; to this end, Matthew 2535 endeavors to provide work clothing and appropriate footwear, and to make available the haircutting and other services mentioned above. Occasionally special events are held, as donations permit. In the past Matthew2535 has conducted a blanket distribution in an attempt to provide every homeless individual with this basic necessity. A backpack day was also held, and the homeless received a backpack with a variety of contents (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, rain poncho, Bible, cookies, shampoo, etc.).
